Swiss Cheese Monstera Care Guide

About Swiss Cheese Monstera

The Swiss Cheese Monstera (Monstera adansonii) is a vining plant with characteristic perforations on its leaves, which gave it its name. This tropical plant belongs to the same family as the much larger Monstera deliciosa. It’s native to the rainforests of Central and South America. The Monstera Swiss Cheese plant thrives in hardiness zones 10-11, where it can be grown outdoors.

The Swiss Cheese Monstera is relatively beginner-friendly and can either climb or grow as a cascading plant. Keep this tropical vine out of your pets’ reach, as it can be toxic if ingested.

The Swiss Monstera symbolizes longevity and abundance, and is used to bring prosperity in Feng Shui.

Other gorgeous Monstera varieties include the classic Monstera Deliciosa and the rare, speckled Monstera Thai Constellation.

Monstera Adansonii Care: Growing Tips

For the most part, Swiss Cheese vine care is easy and undemanding. This beautiful plant will thrive when provided with balanced watering, high humidity, and proper sunlight. Follow these essential Swiss Cheese plant care tips for success:

Swiss Cheese Vine: Light Requirements & Temperature

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best for your Swiss Cheese Vine plant. Keep it away from scorching direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: This plant thrives in stable temperatures of 65°F-85°F. Avoid placing it in cold drafts from doors or windows.

Monstera Swiss Cheese: Watering & Humidity

  • Watering: Proper watering is vital for Monstera Swiss Cheese plant care. Water thoroughly, and then wait until the top few inches dry before watering again. Never let it sit in waterlogged soil.
  • Humidity: Your Swiss plant loves high humidity. Place its pot on a pebble tray, group with other plants, or use a humidifier.

Swiss Cheese Plant: Soil, Fertilizer, and Repotting

  • Soil: Use well-draining soil for this plant. Mix potting soil with orchid bark and perlite to aid drainage.
  • Fertilizer: Feed your Adansonii Monstera plant monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season. Diluted the fertilizer to half strength.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years into a slightly larger pot. Water well before repotting to prevent root damage.

Swiss Cheese Monstera: Propagation

Swiss Cheese Monstera propagation is easy. Take stem cuttings with one leaf and a leaf node attached, and plant in well-draining, moist soil. Alternatively, place the cuttings in fresh water until the roots form.

Swiss Cheese Vine: Problems and Pruning

Yellowing leaves are usually due to overwatering. Crisp brown tips show insufficient humidity. Regularly check your Swiss Cheese plant for sale for insects like spider mites or mealybugs and treat with insecticide if needed.

Prune your Monstera Swiss Cheese plant when it gets leggy to encourage bushier growth.
