Moonshine Snake Plant Care Guide

About Sansevieria Moonshine

Sansevieria Moonshine (Sansevieria trifasciata Moonshine), also known as Sansevieria Moonlight, is a compact Snake plant variety with silvery green foliage. This plant is a succulent, which means that it stores water inside its fleshy leaves and is therefore drought-tolerant. This tropical plant is native to West Africa, adapting well to USDA hardiness zones 9-12. With the proper care, these tough plants can thrive for decades indoors and are considered some of the easiest houseplants to care for. Snake plants can be toxic to pets if ingested, so keep them out of their reach.

Sansevieria Moonshine symbolizes strength and perseverance, and it’s considered a lucky plant that brings good fortune to its owner.

Other stunning Snake plants to consider for your indoor garden include the golden-edged Snake Plant Laurentii and the fabulously striped Zeylanica Snake Plant.

Moonshine Snake Plant: Benefits

Moonshine Snake Plant Care: Growing Tips

Sansevieria Moonshine care is super easy. Here’s what these resilient indoor plants need to thrive:

Sansevieria Moonshine: Light Requirements & Temperature

  • Light: One of the major Snake plant benefits is its adaptability to low light. It will also thrive in medium or bright, indirect light.
  • Temperature: Sansevierias grow best in warm temperatures, but they’ll easily adapt to temperatures from 55℉ to 85℉. Bring them indoors if the temperatures drop below 45℉.

Moonshine Snake Plant: Watering & Humidity

  • Watering: Water when the soil is thoroughly dry. Overwatering is much more dangerous to these plants than letting them dry out somewhat.
  • Humidity: Moonlight Sansevieria prefers dry growing conditions, although it can tolerate average humidity.

Moonshine Sansevieria: Soil, Fertilizer, and Repotting

  • Soil: Well-draining soil is essential for these succulent plants. Use a cacti or succulent potting soil mixed with some perlite to enhance drainage.
  • Fertilizer: Snake plants don’t need frequent fertilizing. Feed them twice during the growing season with a balanced, liquid fertilizer.
  • Repotting: Another of the benefits of Snake plant care is that these plants require infrequent repotting. Repot once every 4 years into a slightly larger pot with drainage holes.

Moonshine Snake Plant: Propagation

Moonshine Sansevieria is easy to propagate via division once mature. Divide the root clump while repotting, choosing pups with developed roots. Propagating from leaf cuttings is also possible, but the new plants might not retain the silver variegation.

Snake Plant Moonshine: Problems and Pruning

Yellowing leaves are often a sign of overwatering. Brown spots are often due to overexposure to direct sunlight, while wrinkled leaves signal underwatering. If you notice your Moonshine Snake Plant turning green instead of its original silvery color, move it to a brighter lit area of your home.

This small plant doesn’t normally require pruning. Trim your Snake Plant to remove any damaged leaves, and wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust.
